Armando tells us about himself with a simple Q&A

Q1. Who is Armando?

Armando is an artist, art historian and educator based in London, UK.

Q2. Where do you get your inspiration?

Not so much from visual arts, at least not directly in terms of style. Of course I am inspired by a range of artists be it Titiziano (colour sense and Renaissance painting technique), Rodin (sense of movement). Instead my inspiration for creating comes from readings in Philosophy, Poetry and Mythology.

Q3. Did you have any formal training?

I was trained in a rather conservative way in Macedonia where almost every art method was taught as a separate subject, e.g., Perspective, Decorative Art, Sculpture, Fine Art Drawing and Painting were all separate subjects in the curriculum. It was time consuming but well worth it I feel. I think I appreciate this much more now than when I was studying these subjects.

Q4. How would you describe your art?

Abstract figurative. I aim to show the energy flow around and within us, the life force that binds us together. Depicting movement is of paramount importance when I paint as I deeply believe in the Ancient greek philosophical belief that everything is in constant movement.

Q5. What artists inspire you?

Tiziano, the Ancient Greeks, Raphael, Da Vinci, Rodin, Franz Von Stuck, Egon Schiele, Edvard Munch, Kandinsky, Sisley.

Q6. What does Sentiment mean to you?

The first thing that comes to mind is how to avoid the Sentimental in my art!
